The HMS Protector is the Royal Navy’s only Ice Patrol Ship and is regularly deployed in Antarctica and the Southern Hemisphere for up to 330 days per year. This 5,000t vessel undertakes hydrographic surveys of the area to improve the safety of navigation, provides support to UK/foreign environmental research stations and assists the British Antarctic Survey.
We conducted a detailed survey of the existing lighting installation throughout the vessel while it was undergoing repairs in dry dock in England. Our survey findings formed part of the scope definition for preparatory works for a mid-life upgrade of the vessel including a full lighting upgrade by an international marine services specialist.
