BP Andrew 6.6kV Cable Testing

  • February 22, 2012

Portfolio Description

We provided witness testing, document review and approval services for the 6.6kV cable that feeds the new Kinnoull process module with power as part of the BP Andrew Area Development project.

This 6.6kV flexible rubber-insulated cable was manufactured by CCI in Italy to a custom specification, complying with BP ETP standards and BS EN standards.  The criticality of this cable in operation and the individual physical construction of the cable required that factory witness tests be carried out prior to it being shipped to the UK.

We attended the factory premises at Ferentino to witness a series of test activities including impulse, current injection and sample dimensional measurement tests.  All testing procedures were reviewed and accepted prior to the visit and test equipment was inspected for valid calibration before the tests could commence.  Following the successful testing visit, we reviewed and accepted the corresponding certification/record documents on behalf of our Client.

The cable was successfully installed by Wood Group on the BP Andrew platform during 2013 and was perceived as a critical milestone achievement towards Kinnoull start-up in 2014.
